Progress and some setbacks

I'm at the border stage of my Swell Moda U quilt for the shop sample.  Last night I was basting the red cotton rick rack I bought to the innner border and this morning when I picked it up to admire my handiwork, I realized I was going to run out of rick rack!  I am more than a little peeved, as I ordered an entire extra yard.   And now of course I must order another whole piece plus extra, in case it is a different dye lot.  Ugh.

I have made ZERO progress on our Web Sampler quilt.  I ordered the finishing kit on January 31 and paid with a credit card through Paypal.  The shop charged my card immediately but I did not get my kit.  3 weeks passed.   I was assured it was on its way "within a week."   2 more weeks passed, then 2 more.  I finally contacted the shop and asked for a refund.  My email went unanswered for 4 days until I filed a complaint with Paypal, and then I got an immediate response and credit.  I won't name the shop since I did get a resolution, but I am not pleased.  It has soured me on this web sampler business and I doubt I will ever again do a project like this from 12 different shops.  I'm really disappointed and have lost all my enthusiasm for this project.

  1. Bummer on the ric-rac shortage! I know how frustrated that can be to run out of something like that. I had a problem with one of the stores in the Web Sampler. I never got the block, and they insisted they mailed it, but I never got it. I had it sent to my work, I asked her what address she used, she didn't put "south" in the address, so I'm sure it's floating around downtown Los Angeles. They finally sent me another one, and told me to keep the other one on them if it shows up. I am sure it won't. Maybe it was the same shop.

  2. Dernit! That shortage can take the wind right out of your sails and as for the shop that gave you the shaft, well, rest assured they have not so good energy around them. Personally, I'm never shopping there again. Jerks. So much for letting them have my 350.00/month fabric shopping budge. (oh wait, I dont know who it is! silly me!) (oh wait, I dont have anywhere near that kind of fabric budget)

  3. You can't not do the Web Sampler, Lisa, I need someone to be as late with it as I am, lol. You have done such beautiful work on the blocks you have done, there is no sense in wasting that effort. Pick out another finishing kit, or just do your own thing with finishing up the blocks. They are all the same size so you can put your creativity to work and plan your own finishing kit. Now that is your challenge! The fabric is still available, and if you get in a bind for some I bought a fq package of the fabric "just in case". So, quit stomping your foot and get busy, lol. Who knows, you may be doing the winning quilt for your quilt show next year. Hugs!

  4. Oh Lisa that is so crummy that they did that to you. That shop must have some issues...they charged my card through Pay Pal as soon as I place my order for my block and it was about 2 weeks before they sent the block. Lesson learned...not another order from them, no more money to them...don't give up the project...you'll do something wonderful with the blocks.

  5. Man what a week! I am a bit leary of all the shops doing BOM and sampler activities now. I don't think they realize the power of blogland to attract potential customers. Hope the rest of the week is better.

  6. If the finishing kit for the Web Sampler is from the Plano, TX store, I think I know the reason. I was down in TX over spring break and found out that they are closing their doors and had everyting on sale. I hope you will continue with these blocks. It's a beautiful quilt now matter which setting you chose.

  7. Interesting comment from Jeanine in KS. I have to say that the eleven other shops sent me my block supplies within one week to ten days. The shop you bought your first finishing kit from didn't get the block to me for over a month.
Don't be too discouraged about the entire project. Making the blocks together will still be fun, and once you get the top together with your new finishing kit, you will be happy again. We can do it! Encouraging smiles going your way.

  8. My goodness, Lisa! What a bummer about the rick rack! Just when you think you've got a handle on something, it proves you wrong. Happens to me all the time too, doggone it!
Bad luck about the Web Sampler, too! I hope you feel better about the experience now that you got a chance to talk about it. It's such a pretty sampler, and you're in the company of good friends, so I bet you'll have a smile on your face soonly, and will be enjoying the creative process once again!
