Care to guess?

Bank A couple of friends and I have a silly hobby of picking up pennies or other loose change we find on the ground.  I seem to have a knack for it, so I decided on October 1 of last year to keep all the money I found in a piggy bank, just out of curiosity, to see how much I actually found in a year's time.  So now is your chance to guess - how much money did Lisa find on the streets of Seattle in the past year?   To help you a bit with your guessing, I weighed my piggy bank - the weight of just the money was 1 pound, 8.6 oz.  So - care to guess how much I found?  Submit your guess by the end of the day October 7, and the person who comes closest to the grand total will win 6 batik fat quarters in your choice of colors.

  4. That's a tough question, because you're saying that it's not all pennies! I'll guess $12.73 -- and I'll be looking for loose change on the ground when I visit my brother in Seattle this month!

  10. $33.25
We have a tradition in our house of throwing our change in a (large) jar. Not all the change makes it, but when we get close to Christmas, we make an effort to scour the house, car (DH throws his into the pocket in the door of his truck), etc and collect all of it. Then we cash it in, and that's what the kids have to purchase Christmas gifts for family members. They get to decide how to divide it (say they get $40 each, and have to buy for four family members - they get to decide if they want to combine their $10 per person and get someone a single $20 gift). And they're not allowed to spend it on themselves!
Maybe I'll try your experiment this year!

  11. My husband and I do the same thing...but he tells me it is unlucky to pick up a coin (pennies especially) unless they are face-up! We keep separate coin jars and empty all of our purse/pocket change into them daily - when they fill up I just love rolling up the whole sheebang and carrying my brown paper bag to the bank...and then deciding what fun things we can do with our "stash"! And living in the Seattle area as well - you wouldn't believe how much of that coin is Canadian - I now have a separate jar just for that - works great for tips and whatnot when we travel to B.C! I'll guess that you have $$16.83. Cheers!
