Now that the holiday hub-bub is over, I can get back into my sewing room! I finished this quilt sample for the shop. It's Dover Gardens from the book Simple Things, Small Joys by Brenda Riddle. It's made from Lakehouse Fabrics. I didn't add the final 'scalloped' border because I didn't feel the same green that I used in the star points would stand out enough in the final border against the busy floral print. If we had a different green print in the shop, it might work.
My other reason is because I was having a difficult time fitting the sashing to the blocks. I'm not sure if I cut the block centers wrong, but I was struggling to get things to fit and I'm more than happy to call it done!
I have only 2 borders to sew onto my Starring Repros quilt, so I should have another finish under my belt in the next day or two - woo hoo!
Then Nicole and I are going to start our first challenge of the year - a batik quilt!
I love those Lakehouse fabrics, Lisa - they're so fresh and crip - and what a terrific pattern! Beautiful!! I'll have to pop into the shop to have an up-close look! Can't wait to see what you and Nicole come up with - that was such a cute picture of you two that she posted the other day!

ReplyDeleteA batik challenge? Are you going to start with a particular batik fabric that you both have to use, or do you each just have to make an entire quilt using only batiks? It sounds like fun and I am sure both of you will make gorgeous quilts ~ truth be told, I don't think I've ever seen an icky batik quilt. No matter how hard someone tries it's hard to make a mess with gorgeous fabric. (And some folks really do try...)

ReplyDeleteLet's talk about the batik challenge tomorrow. I am so raring to go! While at the retreat, some of the gals wanted to go see Back Porch fabric in Pacific Grove, so I led a little field trip. I also ended up with three Bali Pops.... Those could become addicting!
